"IN MINIATURE"

A dollhouse is a toy home, made in miniature.

Miniature homes, furnished with domestic articles and resident inhabitants (both people and animals), have been made for thousands of years.
The earliest known examples were found in the Egyptian Tombs.
For the last century, dollhouses have primarily been the domain of children but their collection and crafting have also fascinated a large number of adults.
Today's doll's house traces its history directly back about four hundred years to the Sixteenth Century "baby houses" of Europe.
The baby houses were cabinet display cases made up of rooms.

A dollhouse can provide a terrific outlet for creativity, completely change the look of a room with a change of lighting or wall color, or play with furniture from different periods.

One of the most opulent dollhouses in North America is Colleen Moore's Fairy castle which has been housed as an exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois since the early 1950s.
